Main Street Ministries sets aside one Saturday a month to try and love on people, meet some needs and serve others in the downtown area. Typically, people would show up at the MSM building (located adjecent to the Mustard Seed Thrift Store on Main Street) at about 9am and gather for a devotional thought and a prayer before we take part in a multi-faceted day. A Service Saturday would include the following aspects.
ADOPT-A-BLOCK
Modeled after an urban, inner-city ministry of the DreamCenter in California, we target certain poverty areas of downtown Twin Falls and seek to get in those area and build true friendships with the people there. These are not relationships driven by some other agenda, but an authentic desire to get to know people personally. We will often share a love-gift with them (i.e. gloves in the winter, pies, PB&J's, etc.) and take the opportunity to sit and listen to their stories and pray with them.
MAIN STREET MEAL
We will spend the day inviting everyone we see to a free meal at the MSM building that day at 11:30. We serve a warm meal in the winter, a cool meal in the summer, offer a comfy couch and a smiling face to talk to.
SERVICE PROJECT
Some of the Service Saturday crew will take off that morning after prayer to spend the day using their physical prowess (*chuckle) to serve another organization. We like to help out anybody who is trying to make a difference in Twin Falls with as much physical labor as possible. Many of the projects we've been a part of are not only beneficial and significant but also a ton of fun for those that get involved.
